internet Internet/Data Bundles Opinions

Seriously, how is Econet justifying raising USD data prices.

Dear Econet: Asi Chii Nhai?!

Last week’s Econet price hike shook people as was the usual. Everyone reacted that their RTGS prices are crazy, we complained about it over social media for a day, and then some of us just moved on. But a funny thing happened yesterday which I personally hadn’t noticed: The Smart USD bundle prices are up as well. And honestly, I’m surprised more people aren’t going crazy about this, because this is just Econet going too far.

Now the first screenshot didn’t give you the right peak into Econet’s Machinations hopefully this table will. Basically, the 8GB/2GB of peak $10 USD bundle is gone now, being replaced by a 10GB $12 option instead that honestly is just Econet bullying us at this point. I mean what’s their actual excuse? Who asked for this? And why do they think any of this price hiking is justified especially when they claimed RTGS prices would be the ones to keep rising due to the (now pretty stable) USD to ZWL/RTGS rate. The reasons for their RTGS rate don’t even apply anymore and yet Econet thinks USD is fair game now as well. Obviously the company is taking advantage of how we’ve all “redollarised” but this is a bit too much. Whoever’s playing Master of Economics over at Econet clearly has his logic wrong, because if before RTGS prices were raised to keep up with the rate, now why are USD prices being raised as well? The USD value lowering? Okay then keep the RTGS rate stable. This isn’t rocket science. And yet Econet would probably like to act like it is if it means they get an extra dollar out of you. The company is pushing people too far here, and there’s no way any of it makes sense beyond them wanting to turn more of a profit in a post-pandemic world.
Can any of this change? I’m not sure. But I do know it has too and we should likely make some noise about it, especially with Econet’s monopoly, considering what they decide tends to set the trends for NetOne and Telecel as well. I mean even Telecel has ridiculous ZWL 12000 for 6GB Wi-fi Bundles now because Econet has worse pricing. Hence if you don’t want your NetOne bundles going crazy as well, now might be the time to complain a little. Get on Twitter, hit up Econet’s socials, basically do whatever is necessary to keep yourself from getting robbed, because that’s what Econet is doing right now: robbing you. And you really shouldn’t stand for it.
