For about a year Econet’s e-learning bundle was my go-to monthly data option. Offering 10GB for a price that was often just slightly higher than the base 8GB Private Wi-fi bundle and justifiably much cheaper than the 15GB bundle. Unfortunately it seems that for almost 3 months now Econet has essentially forgotten this bundle exists, or is unsure what to do with it ever since it introduced its USD bundles, because for these past 3 months you can’t buy the bundles, no matter what you try. Which has us thinking one thing: make up your mind Econet!

Now of course if you dial *143# you’ll still see the e-learning bundle on the menu options, and if you continue with the purchase process everything will go well until you simply get a message that you failed to purchase the bundle. Both Airtime and Ecocash options don’t work (we tried), and now it seems the e-learning bundle option is only there as a placeholder. It’s price hasn’t even been updated from the $ZWL 4920 (though if you want Econet, you could definitely make the bundles active again and just maintain the same price), showing that either Econet is paying no attention to these at all, or they’re maybe considering how best to restore them considering the dual pricing strategy they’ve taken where they clearly want you using USD for their services instead.

Either way if Econet is going to sort this out, hopefully the do it quickly. Their current pricing strategy is borderline abusive when it comes to how it pushes you towards USD, and hopefully the E-learning bundle can maintain some form value-for-money status like it has before. Especially since, as Econet and everyone else might have forgotten, these bundles are meant to help out students who can’t keep churning out cash for data. Keep that in mind Econet.
