The OnePlus 7T: Now That’s More Like It.

YESSSSSSS!!!
So earlier this year we covered the OnePlus 7 Pro, the Chinese company’s flagship device for the year which to be honest, we weren’t exactly fond of. Don’t get me wrong the 7 Pro in all honesty is a great phone, and one of the most impressive ones in what’s been a pretty good year for smartphones, but it also feels like a betrayal of what OnePlus has represented for years now, aiming to largely be a flagship level smartphone similar to your iPhones and Galaxy S devices rather than a flagship killer that may not pack some unnecessary features but hits the important parts so well it makes flagships look ridiculous. That’s what OnePlus phones are meant to represent, and while the 7 Pro may have been the letdown we never wanted, the new OnePlus 7T is a return to form in all the right ways.
Now let’s be straight, the OnePlus 7T is a little less premium than it’s Pro big brother, after all it’s meant to be a slight upgrade to the largely overlooked normal OnePlus 7 instead. But here’s the thing, would anyone really notice? The only things that the OnePlus 7T loses from the Pro are the QHD Display , the pop-out camera so the phone could become bezzless , a slightly bigger battery and a larger 12 GB RAM option. However, it literally keeps everything else that makes the OnePlus 7 Pro had (specs will be highlighted below) along with adding a better processor, some faster charging and some macro-photography camera hardware enhancements, meaning the 7 Pro won’t just get those features in an update.

In all honesty, we wonder why OnePlus even released the 7 Pro in the first place because honestly, this is the phone most people wanted. In fact it’s the phone we would want right now! There’s still classic grievances like the lack of a headphone jack in my case but in all honesty this phone is incredibly impressive, and while its Pro big brother came out with a USD $750 price tag that essentially only justified itself by pointing at how iPhones and Galaxy phones cost a thousand dollars, the Oneplus 7T goes back to it’s classic OnePlus roots and costs only $600. Now that is still crazy steep in our economy but consider how the iPhone 11 (non-pro) goes for $700 and how the OnePlus arguably beats that in most categories (except maybe that camera) and you’ve got yourself a flagship killer sharpening its blade to go even after it’s own predecessor. It’s hard to justify buying a thousand dollar phone when devices like this exist, and in fact even the OnePlus faces some pretty steep competition from the even cheaper Goggle Pixel 3a and even phones like the Galaxy s10e that has dropped in price. The mid-range of smartphones has gotten exciting again, and with phones like this coming out, high-end flagships just seem redundant all over again (now if only we could easily get these in Zim).
Tell us your thoughts on the OnePlus 7T. Do you like it? Would it make sense for you? Are all smartphones to expensive now anyway? Let us know in the comments and on social media.
