Ted Lasso being in FIFA 23 might be the best thing I’ve seen all week

Let’s start of with something that I know won’t gain me a lot of popularity: I’m not a soccer fan, so as you can imagine, I’m not a big FIFA fan either. I can play it, in fact I would say I’m above average due to playing with my brother from time to time, but I’m no FIFA stan. I tend not to care much about new releases and consider it a “compulsory game” that the average Zimbo male plays even if they’re not really passionate about it. And that’s honestly fine in my book after all we can’t base 50% of our personality on whether we like Messi or Ronaldo. However the latest FIFA 23 reveal has even me excited. Because while I don’t care much about soccer, I love the soccer-based comedy Ted Lasso, and now in 2023 you can play as the show’s version of FC Richmond and Ted himself! Just watch the trailer below already!
So as you can probably guess you’ll be able to play as AFC Richmond in FIFA 23’s kickoff, tournament and career modes while Ted Himself is a will be available in manager mode. It doesn’t exactly match the deep but hilarious comedy where these characters come from but it’s essentially a match made in heaven, especially in a world where games, TV and other forms of media are all melding into one. It’s also a good way for EA to get fans hyped about FIFA 23, which is going to be the last licensed game from EA before they cut ties with FIFA and rebrand/reboot as EA Sports FC (yeah , the name still sucks). This of course creates an expectation that FIFA 23 might just be a “hold-over” game until the next big one arrives. Thankfully that doesn’t seem to be the case. Either way, I’m game if I get to play as Roy Kent.
FIFA 23 releases on September 30 for PS5|PS4 ,Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
