A look at our lives and the tech we use in them

Lenovo’s Folding PC/Tablet device is the foldable we might all really want.

It might actually make more sense than a folding phone….

We’ve been covering folding phones on this site for a while now, and whatever your thoughts on them they seem like they’re going to be dominating 2019 as far as tech news is concerned. But as great as folding phones are, coming with a mobile operating system like Android might still hinder how useful they aim to be as productivity devices, which is why folding PC’s might make more sense. And Lenovo’s new concept device is here to prove just that.

Now let’s start by clearing one thing up here, PC’s or PC like tablets with folding screens have actually been in the making longer than folding smartphones have been, just look at Microsoft’s courier concept from back in the early 2000’s , and one could argue their use case makes more sense. The idea is just like windows based tablets like the Surface Pro, you have a lighter, easier to carry device than your traditional laptop that still has impressive power and brings in new , intuitive interfaces like touch and integrated inking support. Something that can act like a notebook or a notepad (the actual paper ones not laptops) and caters more to creative individuals such as digital artists, journalists and graphics designers. Lenovo’s new device (which is still unnamed) aims to be just that, with very impressive pen support , an actual leather exterior and an impressive while seemingly sturdier design than devices like Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. This doesn’t mean it’s built the perfect device but it definitely seems to be well on it’s way there. In fact the current version of Windows 10 that it’s running, the one most of us use today is not even the one it will be running when this device finally get’s released presumably next year under the X1 family. That will be Windows Lite, a newer, tweaked version of Windows 10 that will come with a huge emphasis on touch and tablet support.

It’s also worth mentioning that this isn’t exactly Lenovo’s first try at this. They have released 2 editions of what’s called the Lenovo Yoga Book, a laptop that came with dual screens with the second one where the keyboard usually was. Both devices were good but not perfect and perhaps this new completely foldable device will be the vision of the other two truly realised.

Either way we’re honestly all looking forward to what devices like this may bring. It’s worth noting that Asus, HP and perhaps even Microsoft will be gearing up with foldable devices or their own, and we can’t wait to see how that changes the PC landscape.

Tell us your thoughts on all these devices in the comments below.
