Facebook is pulling Instagram, Messenger and it’s official app for Windows Phones

Abandon Ship Brothers!!…..

As we’ve said before, being a Windows Phone user is the smartphone equivalent of an extreme sport. The platform has long been considered dead since 2016, and with Microsoft announcing that they will be ending official support even for Windows 10 Mobile in January 2020, it’s become apparent for both die hard fans and app developers that it’s time to abandon this sinking ship. And on that note Facebook has announced that it will be removing it’s official Facebook app , Facebook Messenger and Instagram from the Microsoft Store for Windows Phones. This may mean that the Windows 10 Mobile versions may stay, but we highly doubt it. Facebook itself has recommended using the Facebook and Instagram websites, and we’ll personally recommend SlimSocial for Facebook and 6tag for Instagram as app replacements. (You can click on the links for either to download them)

What scares us more however, is the most important app Facebook owns for most of us : WhatsApp. The Windows Phone version has had steady support and was known to support Blackberry and even Symbian phones years after their deaths, but one cant’ be sure that’s the same treatment Windows Phone will get. As a Windows 10 Mobile user, I can understand how some of you are feeling about all this. But the signs have been there for a while now to abandon the platform, and it seems the final nails on Windows Phone’s coffin are being hammered in. And it’s time we all collectively let go of Microsoft’s admirable failure to take on the smartphone market.

Do you use a Windows Phone? Tell us why you still use it and what phone you may want to move to after this in the comments below.
