You’ll be able to reply friends on WhatsApp and Instagram using Facebook Messenger

And Vice-Versa

Remember when we talked about WhatsApp Facebook and Instagram being combined somehow at some point? Well we weren’t kidding and during its F8 developer conference Facebook showed that it’s now working on talking to your friends on WhatsApp and Instagram using Messenger, and vice versa as well. Basically, in their words “You should be able to talk to anyone you want.” and now the company is making moves to allow cross platform messaging across its apps. The feature can’t come soon enough for us because honestly we’ve wondered why at least a way to continue Facebook conversations on WhatsApp wasn’t available ever since Facebook bought WhatsApp back in 2014. This implementation would not only mean most of us only have to use one app for messaging, but considering our current Bundle Struggles in Zim, a single architecture for these apps and their messages should mean that I could buy a Facebook Bundle and use it to answer messages from WhatsApp as well, or vice versa. Let’s just hope Econet doesn’t try to get smart about that and come up with a way to strangle  us while the other telecom providers follow suit. The only unfortunate part to this is that since it’s such a huge change from a technical standpoint, Mark Zuckerberg himself said it may likely only be available next year or so. Not exactly a fun thought, but a necessary pain if it means keeping the apps running while working on this in the background.
