Because apparently we don’t have enough reason to leave it behind..

Facebook recently removed its official app and Instagram from the Windows store for Windows Phone last week on April 30 and now it’s just announced that Zim’s most popular app WhatsApp will be dropping Windows Phone support by the end of the year including Windows 10 Mobile. You can read the official statement below:

 

“Because we will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time,While the app may initially continue to work, you’ll likely start encountering major bugs as WhatsApp continues to make changes on its end and Windows phone grows stale. Because we will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time,”

This isn’t exactly a shocker as the user numbers for Windows phone keep dropping by the day and Microsoft itself officially dropping Windows phone support on the same day. However considering how hard it is to buy a phone right now considering the country’s situation and the actual respectable amount of Windows phone users in Zim, WhatsApp eventually leaving the platform is going to be a blow some of us may feel. WhatsApp will also be dropping support for Android phones running version 2.3.7 and below. In other words, if you have any phone from around 2011/2012 you might want to check your Android version number as well.

The respectable number of Windows Phone users wasn’t by mistake either, as for many the platform offered a reliable smartphone experience on otherwise really cheap phones for most people. Either way, it’s safe to say that with core important apps now leaving Windows Phone, its time most people jumped ship and moved to other platforms. Hopefully by the time the year ends most users would have found an Android phone that gives a reasonable enough upgrade for a good price (because goodness forbid you buy something worse than your previous phone).
