A look at our lives and the tech we use in them

WhatsApp’s latest feature helps combat fake news, but unfortunately it still requires data bundles for this.

We can’t blame them for where this falls apart…

WhatsApp’s has just released its latest feature allowing users to do a web search based on the contents of a forwarded message, a feature that’s of course still focused on minimizing the spread of fake news. It’s a novel feature that we actually appreciate here at TZP, but unfortunately it’s also faced by the simple challenge of internet access, as to of course do said web search you would need access to data, and in a country where WhatsApp = The Internet, that may not be the case for many people who will receive fake news still. This of course is a problem that’s more caused by our general internet access situation rather than WhatsApp, and well at least we know the feature will still help many. Now if only our data prices could get cheaper.
